N. G. Herreshoff, one of Americas greatest yacht designers and innovators, designed the Herreshoff 12 1/2 in 1913 for yachtsmen who wanted a safe and easy handling family day sailer. Also known as the Buzzards Bay Boys Boat, it has proved to be enduringly popular and has become a one design racing class. Approximately 3000 of the boats have been built in both wood and fiberglass.
